FORUM HISTORY
On the 20th of January 2009 under the patronage of Russian Federation Government and the all-Russian political party “Integrated Russia”, the International Conference “Pure Water” devoted to fundamental and practical issues of supplying the Earth population with potable water, matters of modernization and development of the water industry in Russia was held in Moscow. A high level of social interest to the problem of water has been demonstrated at the Conference and brought together about 450 participants. Federal Councilors, State Duma Deputies of the Russian Federation Federal Meeting, Executives of the Russian Federation Government, profile ministries and agencies, international organizations, Russia water channels, leading scientific establishments, Russian and international companies producing water purifying techniques and potable water were present at the Conference. A high status of the event was highlighted by the greeting of the Conference Participants by the Government Chairman Vladimir Putin. The Conference drew a wide social response. Its work was reported by 13 leading TV channels and more than 50 correspondents of the leading informational agencies, business and social and political editions of the federal and regional level.
Beside the plenary meetings, round tables and water purifying techniques equipment exhibition were organized within the framework of the Conference. The Briefing of State Duma Chairman of the Russian Federation Federal Meeting Boris Gryzlov and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Board of the Russian Federation Federal Meeting Svetlana Orlova also took place within the framework of the Conference.
The main topic, which became a burden of the Conference, was to create a common system of managing water resources and increasing life expectancy in the State by means of improving national health providing the access for Russian people to high-quality potable water.
Participants of the Conference noted the necessity of a full-scale “Pure Water” State program realization, transfer to practical measures in establishing an integrated system of the Russian Federation a hydroeconomic complex management, saving and augmenting State water wealth, providing the population with high-quality potable water, creating favorable investment conditions in the water industry and entering the international water market as one of its main participants, and its leader – in the future prospective.
“Pure Water” program realization is to start in 2010 which will allow achieving a guaranteed standard quality potable water supply in 2014 in Russia. By the year 2020 the percentage of the country population having an access to the centralized water supply will increase for 40%. According to the specialists, life expectancy of Russian people will also increase for 5-7 years.
The participants of the Conference highly valued the efforts being taken by the Russian Federation Government in optimizing water supply management and saving water wealth of the State, and marked that Russian executives have political will, resources and tools for a profound, effective State water industry reformation and are the feeling responsibility in front of the present and future Russian generations and humanity on the whole.
The final document of the Conference is a resolution, – accepted by the participants, – which contains the Organizational Committee mission to start preparation for the International forum “Pure Water”, which will further develop the range of problems touched upon the framework of the Conference held. According to the decision taken by the participants of the Conference, the International forum is to be held in autumn 2009 in Moscow.
